Building your home based business will take time to become profitable, so having money saved on the side will help with supporting your family.  You should  save enough money on the side for two year expenses. Another option will be to build your home based business as a part time job. This way when the income of your home based business reaches certain level you can quit your regular job and work full time.

Starting and running a home based business requires certain skills and abilities. You need to determine which are you strength and which duties you feel are capable of conducting, which skills you can develop and decide do you need to hire someone to meet the needs of your home based business that you can not. Whether or not you will be successful home based entrepreneur depends on you and if you can  find a way to deal with your weaknesses.

One of the biggest mistake to make when starting a home based business is offering a product or service for which there is no market or a very small market. Therefore, an important concern for you will be to conduct a market research of the product or service you plan to offer. You should research the customers that are willing to pay for the product or service you plan to offer, and the price they are willing to pay for it. You should also research the competion and the products and services they are offering. When you collect enough data on the competition you can make a decision on the products and services you plan to offer on the market.

Another thing of concern is the amount of time that will take your business to become profitable. Being a business owner is not an easy thing. It requires not only skill and hard work but also lot of patience. It takes a lot of time to develop the business to profitability. It doeasnt happen over night to get many customers and become known.  You will probably need a days and weeks of hard work, including weekends to reach the desired profitability.
